Reflecting on INTX’s 25th Anniversary: A Sit-Down with Mark Globe

As INTX marks its 25th anniversary, it’s an opportune moment to reflect on the company’s journey and the evolution we have undergone. To gain insight into this milestone, we sat down with Mark Globe, one of the Directors at INTX, to discuss the company’s past, present, and future.

Early Days and Family Influence

Founded in 1994, INTX began as a modest venture with a focus on providing local transport services across Liverpool. Mark Globe, who joined the company after university, has vivid memories of its early days. “I remember Dad driving the vehicles himself, and the office was initially based at home. It was a family affair from the early days,” Mark recalls.

The company’s early contracts were heavily linked to the music industry, providing transport for high-profile individuals. This aspect of the business was particularly exciting for a young Mark, who found it fascinating to be involved in such a dynamic field. “We had high-profile people coming through Liverpool, and it was always exciting to hear about the famous faces Dad was driving around,” he said. Although the glamour of meeting celebrities was thrilling, it was the foundation laid in those early years that prepared INTX for its future growth.

Mark’s journey with INTX started at age 21, after he completed his studies in law. Despite his legal background, Mark chose to follow a different path, driven by a desire to work in a more dynamic and family-centric environment. “The idea of working in an office for 35 years didn’t appeal to me. Joining the family business felt like a natural and attractive progression.”

Navigating Challenges and Changes

The transport sector faced unprecedented challenges with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and INTX was no exception. The industry saw a dramatic decline in demand, leading Mark to explore opportunities in logistics during this period. His time working with a multinational logistics company provided him with valuable insights into corporate culture, international supply chains, and problem-solving in a resource-rich environment.

Returning to INTX after the pandemic was both exciting and challenging for Mark. “The industry rebounded much quicker than anticipated. We had to scale up rapidly, which involved significant recruitment and operational adjustments. The team’s growth was essential to meet the skyrocketing demand for our services.”

One of the significant changes Mark observed since his return is the shift in the company’s focus. Pre-COVID, INTX’s contracts were primarily centred around park and ride services and coach transfers. Post-pandemic, the company saw a substantial rise in coach touring and a shift towards contracts with schools and sports clubs, which had returned to pre-COVID levels.

Key Learnings and Leadership

Mark’s time in logistics provided him with valuable insights into corporate culture and international supply chains. He learned that large businesses operate differently from smaller ones and that there are always solutions to be found, often through people. This experience has shaped his approach to leadership at INTX, where he emphasises the importance of a positive and supportive work environment.

“I love working with Dad. It’s a dynamic team where we really support each other and challenge each other in a healthy way,” Mark says. This collaborative spirit has been crucial in navigating the company’s recent growth and the evolving transport sector.

Current Challenges and Future Outlook

The transport sector faces several significant challenges, including fluctuating fuel prices, a shortage of drivers, and aging vehicles. Mark highlights these issues, noting that “the demand is really high, but the supply isn’t keeping up. It’s a tough market.”

Looking ahead, INTX is on a high growth trajectory. Mark is optimistic about the future, projecting continued growth and expansion. “We’re growing rapidly, and I’d like to see this level of growth continue in a sustainable way,” he asserts. However, he acknowledges that the sector will face challenges in the coming years, particularly with the imbalance between supply and demand.

Favourite Projects and Personal Insights

Among his favourite projects, Mark fondly remembers an intensive group tour of the UK and Ireland in 2023, which tested the limits of INTX’s coordination and service delivery. “It was a chance to see some amazing places and really push our product to the edge,” he notes.

When asked about his preference between coach and chauffeur cars, Mark admits to a soft spot for coaches. “There’s just something about them that excites me,” he laughed, revealing the team’s shared enthusiasm for their vehicles.

Celebrating 25 Years

For Mark and our team at NTX, our 25th anniversary is more than just a milestone; it’s a celebration of the hard work and resilience that has defined our journey. “Reaching 25 years is a huge deal for us, especially after overcoming the challenges posed by COVID-19. It’s a testament to our team’s dedication and the strength of our family business.”

In reflecting on his career and the future of INTX, Mark remains enthusiastic about the possibilities ahead. “The transport sector will face challenges in the coming years, but we’re committed to providing exceptional service and finding innovative solutions to meet our customers’ needs.”

As INTX looks forward to the next 25 years, Mark Globe’s reflections offer a glimpse into the company’s enduring commitment to excellence and our readiness to navigate the evolving landscape of the transport industry.
